I was living alone for awhile, in a run-down leaky house on Waiheke Island, before it became Auckland's suburb for the mega-rich. Alone, no electricity, no hot water, living on thin air, I decided one night to create my own personal set of Tarot cards, as one does, in such situations. I think I thought up of about 2. Here is the first one. I painted this version of the idea on Crete, years later, though that is definitely a Kiwi landscape he's crashed into The moral of the pic? If your little plane crashes, walk away, leave it. Regrets? Sure, but keep walking.
Acrylic on paper.
Guys running for the Bus
The obviouness of the title is intentional. Not that happy with this one, though I still like the idea. In it I've violated one of the basic rules of perspective in a painting - don't have different planes interfering with each other. So here, it sort of looks like Bryce, Dave and Barry are going to run slam into that lampost! But since the rules of perspective in paintings have been extinct now for about 80 years - who cares? Who will notice the gag?
Oil on canvas, 38 x 58 cm
