I've been living here now for 5 years or so. Like everywhere in Europe, you see a relationship between the land and architecture that simply does not occur in New Zealand. In Auckland it sort of used to, but then a lot of genius town-planners ripped the heart out of the old central city in the 1980s. But I digress. The whole country, the small towns, the villages are gorgeous, and a joy to paint. I'll never get tired of it. Wherever you look, a picture is waiting.
Fribourg, view of the Cathedral and the place of St John
Acrylic on canvas, 129 x 80 cm. An example of me trying out my cartoony landscape thing here in Fribourg - which suits, I think.

The Schweizerhalle
Apart from doing cartoony wacky landscapes, sometimes I also like to try to play it straight.
Acrylic on board. 72 x 40 cm
View of the Basse-Ville
Gouche on paper.

Buskers playing at the railway station.
Local Gypsy Folk trio TNT playing outside during the winter. Oil on canvas, 72 x 56 cm
The Three Towers.

View of the Basse-Ville from the Belvedere
Acrylic on canvas, 120 x 80 cm. Just sort of waving from the balcony with this one. I went back and forth over it I do not know how many times. Started and finished from 2022 - 2025.
